Pobody‘s Nerfect

Updated: Oct 2, 2024

A man looks into a handheld mirror to see his own head peeking out.

You want your magazine, newsletter or website to be perfect, don’t you? But that’s a terrible goal, and here’s why. Perfection is unattainable. Enough is never enough. It’s a goal no one can ever reach. Not only will you never get there, it will make you and your team feel bad about it.

Perfectionism works against you in many ways:

  1. It causes you to procrastinate. You are afraid to risk imperfection so it’s better to do nothing.

  2. It keeps you from taking risks that could end up resulting in an even better outcome than if you didn’t take them at all.

  3. It inhibits others from fully participating in the process because they risk rejection if they don’t meet up to your standards.

  4. It prevents you from asking for help because you don’t want to appear weak or imperfect.

Instead, strive for excellence. Put your all into your project, but accept minor flaws that no one but you will ever notice. Do your best at every phase, from planning through execution. You will get to the point of accomplishment faster and much less painfully. And you will love the results.
